Stanton Cross, Wellingborough

  • Stanton Cross is a large, mixed-use development on the Eastern edge of the historic town of Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. The mixed-use development consists of 3,650 new residential properties, 4 schools, 2 local centres, new shops and a doctor’s surgery.

  • Lead developer Bovis Homes first instructed IGL in January 2017 to undertake the installation and commissioning of the large diameter Spine road infrastructure and to service the first 500 plot parcel. The incumbent couldn’t get water to site quick enough to hit the key dates so, IGL undertook almost a kilometre of off-site Water mains to hit the go live dates. The off-site Water mains laying was completed under a single road closure and to help cut the construction times, one of the UK’s most sophisticated automatic trenching machines was used to cut and excavate the road. By using these methods, IGL managed to complete all off-site works in a timely manor in line with the build programme.

  • Part of the on-site Spine main required specially engineered solutions to cross a section of the Network Rail Midland Main Line, this was just outside of Wellingborough train station. Extensive traffic management systems were required enabling these works to be completed safely whilst continuously liaising with Network Rail and the local council.

  • IGL have since continued to deliver the Water infrastructure for the up and coming parcels on what has been a very eventful project to date.
